Production and Harvesting

[Our History]

    A. McGill & Son uses several methods including seeds, budding, rooted cuttings, and tissue culture, to produce their stock. The tissue culture plants are propagated by Microplant Nurseries, Inc. The cuttings and tissue culture plants are rooted in greenhouses and grown in 45 to 90 day cycles. From there the trees move to the field where they are irrigated by underground drip lines to help conserve water and control runoff. Many of the varieties grown are patented and trademarked, some of which are McGill introductions.

Harvesting of the trees begins in October and runs through the end of December. Grading and storage takes place in our warehouse, where the trees await delivery in February and March by refrigerated trucks.
